UK’s premiere soul singer releases new acoustic EP recorded remotely

Tony Momrelle’s forthcoming LOCKDOWN ACOUSTIC SESSIONS EP is proof that music can and should be made in every circumstance. Recorded remotely during the pandemic, from locations across Europe, this new EP showcases the raw vocal talent of a man who has been described as ‘The 21st Century Stevie Wonder’ (The Guardian).

Six tracks: three brand new songs, one stunning Donny Hathaway cover, and two acoustic revisits of Momrelle classics make up the new EP.

The feel-good, upbeat ESCAPE released as a single in early 2021, accompanied by a music video that brought together footage of dozens of Momrelle fans across the globe. This was followed by a long-awaited Donny Hathaway cover SOMEDAY WE’LL ALL BE FREE, a soulful remake of the 70s classic originally written by Edward Howard.

A MILLION WAYS and SPOTLIGHT are two firm favourites among fans, and these acoustic revisits offer a wonderful canvas for Momrelle’s vocals to shine afresh.

YOU GOT ALL THE LOVIN’ is a brand new original soul/blues track, written alongside Sade songwriter, BEN TRAVERS.

Momrelle says: ‘This EP is an encouragement to everyone to look forward to brighter times and remember that every dark night comes to an end eventually. The last twelve months have tested us all, but music is something that unites everyone, and I’m glad to be able to give people a reason to smile.’

LOCKDOWN ACOUSTIC SESSIONS EP is out for pre-order from 16th April, and will be available on all stores and streaming services from 30th April.

General release: 26th March 2021

Donny Hathaway cover cements Tony Momrelle as the UK’s premiere soul singer

Tony Momrelle has long been lauded alongside other familiar soul legends: Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. His tone, timbre and message sets his music firmly within the realm of the classics, and his latest single – taken from his forthcoming LOCKDOWN ACOUSTIC SESSIONS EP -  is a stunning nod to the voices of his musical ancestors.

SOMEDAY WE’LL ALL BE FREE was first released in 1973 by Donny Hathaway, and was taken from his album Extension of a Man. Written by Edward Howard specifically for his friend, Howard intended the song to be an encouragement to the singer – who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Momrelle says: ‘Raising the profile of mental health issues and encouraging people to speak up and get help is a passion of mine. This song is a message of hope in a particularly hard time, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.’

This rendition of SOMEDAY WE’LL ALL BE FREE was recorded during lockdown, remotely. ‘A Donny Hathaway cover is something that fans have requested for years,’ continues Momrelle. ‘This one is the right song, at the right time.’

SOMEDAY WE’LL ALL BE FREE is out for pre-order from March 12th, and will be available on all stores and streaming services from March 26th.

'ESCAPE' - the new single, out Feb 26 2021

Lockdown-inspired new music video from UK soul singer brings together fans from across the world

Tony Momrelle’s music has positivity and optimism deeply embedded. From the first album ‘Keep Pushing’, whose eponymous track encouraged perseverance in the face of struggle, to the sophomore LP ‘Best Is Yet To Come’, Momrelle has had a singular message running throughout much of his music: life will get better, just don’t give up.

“We’ve never needed this message more than we do right now,” Momrelle says. “COVID-19 has tested all of us on a global scale: physically, mentally, emotionally.”

In his new, feel-good single ‘Escape’, taken from a new EP due in April entitled ‘Lockdown Acoustic Sessions’, Momrelle sings lyrics like ‘Look for a future filled with brighter days’ over upbeat acoustic guitars (Luca Faraone & Mauro Laconi), cajon (Alessio Barelli) and bass (Luca Faraone).

Momrelle continues: “This song is all about lockdown - it was written and recorded in the thick of 2020. It’s about escaping your surroundings; finding that place mentally that helps you to keep your sanity in the midst of all the madness.”

The music video for ‘Escape’ was – naturally – recorded at a distance. “We crowd-sourced the video” says Momrelle. “Fans from all over the world, from the UK to Japan to Brazil, came together to record bits of the track. We can’t all be in the same room right now, but music always brings people together.”

‘Escape’ is out for pre-order from February 12th, and will be available on all stores and streaming services from February 26th.

Ahead of a full album release two months later,‘Rising Up’ is a high-impact number full of syncopation, brass stabs and stylish melodies, set to inspire and motivate listeners with its uplifting message and positive vibes. Tony says: “Rising up is a song about shaking off the old and embracing the new, letting go of things, situations & even people that may hold you back. It’s a song for the soul, a song of self realisation.” The single is aptly named as it is also the debut release on Tony’s new record label Vibe45 Records, which will release the single and subsequent album under a distribution deal with AWAL.

As an essential asset for some of the world’s most successful artists, Tony Momrelle has toured and performed extensively with a plethora of outstanding musicians including Sade, Chaka Khan, Earth, Wind & Fire, Janet Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Gary Barlow and many more.
